Minutes of MW meeting 28 June 2000

Present: Franck, Vito, Alessandro, Nikolai, Francois, Francesco and Kris

It has been accepted that development can now be parallelized in
following areas and with a person responsible and reporting on progress:

- ORB client and server development
        Nikolai is responsible for this, which was already de-facto the case
before. Nikolai needs 2 weeks more to finish and document the interface.
Based on the previous experience he anticipates 2 month for the
implementation (off-line statement after the meeting).

- MoM client and server development.
        Francois is taking the responsibility for this. The API proposed by
Nikolai will be adopted for MoM as well.

- Server framework.
        Alessandro is taking the responsibility. Steen will start to work on
the framework full time from begin of the next week.

- Client API and CDEV.
        There was a disagreement on whether the public API proposed by Vito or
CDEV should be used for the prototype. Franck insisted on implementation
and maintenance plan to be agreed upon and Vito insisted on discussing
only technical problems. For Nikolai the ORB API is the public API and
other API's can be layered easilly on top of it. For him the API
proposed by Vito is not more than helper functions. Kris proposed to
make a prototype of the API proposed by Vito and take a decision on
merging/choosing between the two API's after the summer.
In any case this issue has explosed the meeting and in future it should
be discussed in a separate meeting. It is important that in autumn we
have a single API promoted by the MW project.
Due to the above mentioned problems no responsible person was nominated.

- Naming and configuration services.
For the ORB infrastructure there are two levels of name/address
resolution for clients. The first one is the device-to-server-name
resolution which should come from a database. The second one is the
server location which is ORB internal.
In any case there is a number of other naming and configuration services
which will be necessary and we shall make a list.
It has been agreed that we can use the CORBA ORACLE server for this. We
will make a list of necessary interfaces and add functions as required.
The interfaces will be defined as IDL.
