Minutes of MW meetings 16 & 20 August 2002

Present: Kris (minutes), Nikolai, Steen(16), Slavek, Jens(16), Franck(20)

RDA 2.0

From the lists proposed by Nikolai and Kris following should be part of this new version:

Improvement of connection management (properly terminate client connections)
Portable configuration between different CORBA brands, C++ and Java, defining limits in configuration (number of clients, subscriptions, etc.)
Implement adm interface
use common CMW logging
Packaging convenient for all platforms
Monitor with context
Change or remove IO point, getClass() method.
Access control
Naming service improvements, namely for scalability and redundance.
Data using unions rather than any
Group calls (the need to be justified and the grouping method proposed first)

Other items on the list to be addressed later but which are not part of the next release:

Upgrade Java client and server from BOA to POA
Choosing a CORBA implementation which can last for the next couple of years, both for Java and C++. Currently used implementation is not supported anymore, subsequent versions require license.
Java server upgrade to match facilities in C++ server (fast update, asynch calls, server info etc.)

Items have been proposed but which are not considered priority for the time being.

Use of namespaces in C++
subscription update with multicast (requires UDP plug-in in CORBA)
