Recapitulation of the MW management meeting 29 Nov. 1999
We discussed the scope, deadline and what remains to be done for the
Whitepaper.
This was done in a form of round-table contributions. In general it was
accepted that the layout of the draft is OK but that chapter on choice
discussion is far from perfect. The paper should be issued ASAP but there
can be revisions in the future as the situation evolves. Alex warned not to
publish it to shortly before Xmas or it will be ignored.
Chapters
We agreed that Chapter 1 & 2 are OK, except for the discussion on MOM which
is missing. The style of chapter 3 (sequence of arguments with short
explanation) was accepted but "more meat" is needed there.
Chapter 4 (architecture) should be made with architecture-related discussion
(eg. three tier) moved there. In addition we need additional chapter 5 on
"Strategy" which will explain how are we going to proceed from now.
Other individual requests not already included in the above:
Franck:
* Timing related stuff is missing (chapters 3-5)
* Current investigation should go into the strategy chapter
Vito:
* prototypes strategy in chapter 5
* explain subscribe & command/response as two different facilities which
maybe need different technology (do we agree on this)
* explain modular & plugable approach in chapters 4-5
* in strategy: buy and not develop
Marc:
* in architecture explain isolation from technology
Alex:
* Acronyms in appendix
* Isolate components (in architecture ?)
* In chapters 3 & 5 argument on using leading products
We also agreed on dropping argument on not/using SCADA as this is outside of
our mandate. Instead we should say that OPC would be used for interface with
SCADA.
Vito also requested that integrating prototyping with soft team should also
go into the strategy. This was rejected as it was felt that it's too early
for this.
Actions & responsibilities:
* Marc will make a contribution on MOM in chapter 2.
* Vito will rework/produce chapter 3 (choices)
* Kris will produce chapter 4 (architecture)
* Alex will produce chapter 5 (strategy)
Please report any errors/incompleteness
Kris
