Minutes of MW meeting Wednesday 9 May 2001

Present:  Francesco, Kris (minutes), Nikolai, Steen, Vito

Agenda

1. Status Reports.

Steen - Mainly testing and improving the GM adapter, verifying exceptions etc. The adapter is mostly OK now. He re-produced also documentation with "Together" as the previous RR diagrams have been lost. "Together" was recommended in PS.

Bartek - He has finished the server framework design and is waiting for comments.

Nikolai - He was busy mainly with problem fixes for server and just started to look on the new version foe Java which is expected to take 2-3 weeks. He also installed T-log from ORBacus which is a distributed logging and tracing product implementing the CORBA standard. It comes with a console allowing browsing and searching of messages. The target of this product is the telecom market.

Vito - He has improved the SUM and the section 3.2 is finished now. He was also working on the SL-Equip extension to the API.

Francesco - Made an update of the MOM part of SUM. He set up a PCVUE installation to investigate integration of alarms from String-2 using the CMW OPC Adapter. Kris has set up this adapter adding configuration in the database. Kris reported that the setup did not work initially probably due to user permissions. A temporary solution has been found in starting the OPC gateway by hand by the same user as the one who started PCVUE.

Kris - He was mostly implementing the SL-Equip Adapter which works now on WNT without the actual equipment access. What is implemented is the configuring of the adapter from the ORACLE DB, via the CMW configuration server and the conversion between the CMW and SL-Equip parameters. Kris will now port the Adapter to LynxOS 3.1 and add the actual Equip access. This is expected to be achieved by end of May.

2. Situation resulting from the departure of Alessandro.

Alessandro has found a new great job in Italy in his home region and is quitting CERN 15 of June. We wish him best of luck and it has been unanimously agreed that he should organize a drink to celebrate it!

His post will be filled ASAP and Steen and Nikolai will split the responsibility for what Alessandro was doing. The details of who will do what have not been fixed yet. Nikolai is responsible for the deployment of CMW in PS.

3. Review of developments started and to be started this year.

Kris made a review of what has been achieved so far and what remains to be done this year based on a list which has been produced previously. The updated version of this list is available here and the to-do items will be updated accordingly to the progress made.

Kris is working full-time on the SL-Equip Adapter and the first implementation on LynxOS 3.1 is planned for the end of the month.

The "Passerelle" implementation is progressing simultaneously with Vito and Francois implementing extensions to the CMW API to be able to pass additional information required by Equip. At the same time Vasileios Fasoulas is making the ActiveX part. This development is expected to be finished begin of June.

Nikolai will start the development of the C++ RDA client after provinding the final version of Java RDA which should take 2-3 weeks.

For the administration console I requested a technical student and one has been assigned. He shall arrive in September if he signs up.

The two important new issues will be addressed now: The access control and logging.

Meeting on access control: Wednesday 23 May 9h in the SL Pavilion.

Meeting on logging: Wednesday 30 May 9h in the SL Pavilion.
