Middleware Activities

The CMW project has reached almost all of it's initial goals. Nevertheless improvements and extensions are often necessary. In following we list the major ones which are being worked on. Please note that the Minutes of project meetings give a detailed and up-to-date account of the progress of these activities.

  • RDA version 2.0. There are a number of changes and extensions to RDA which accumulated over time, especially changes which require modifications in the IDL. The version 2.0 will not be compatible with previous versions. The list of modifications in RDA 2.0 has been agreed in the CMW meeting 20 August 2002.

  • RDA C++ clients. The client API and implementation has been completed in July 2002. We started several activities to put this API in use. Pep Serrano from ST is developing a PVSS driver to the CMW so that it can be used in extension of GTPM to other accelerator areas. Another use of C++ RDA client is in replacing NC RPC by CMW in PC Motif applications such as the Working Set. Slavek is currently working on it. Another potential use of this API is the new version of passerelle.

  • Biscoto CMW server. A prototype has been devoloped in April. Currently BI is working on connecting their Java API to the CMW so that they can use Biscoto CMW server in their Java applications.Other issues to be solved are device directory, support for subscriptions and timestamping.
